Learn how innovative medical devices are designed, produced and regulated
Major advances in technology are driving innovation in healthcare. On this course, you will explore the global landscape of medical device trends by looking at the past, present, and future of medical technology development.
You will be introduced to the key factors driving the development of innovative medical equipment, and learn how medical devices are classified. You will also explore medical device regulation as you follow the product development process of a new medical device, from identifying the clinical need to launching the final product.

An introduction to MedTech

In the first week of the course, you will explore what drives innovation in healthcare. You will also be introduced to the different classifications of medical devices, and to the regulations which they must adhere to.
Understanding the past, the current context and future of healthcare challenges
In this activity, you will learn about the different types of medical device, and you will think about the past, present and future of MedTech.
Challenges for MedTech to overcome
In this activity, you will examine some of the challenges which any new MedTech device needs to overcome in order to be successful.
How do we know MedTech is safe to use?
In this activity, you will learn how regulators and the MedTech industry work together to guarantee patient safety.

About Week 2
This week you will explore the process of designing and developing a new MedTech device, from identifying a clinical need to launching a finished product.

Designing with regard to regulations
