Gain the first solid footing on the Chinese learning journey, achieving HSK 1

On this five-week course, you’ll advance your study of the Chinese language as you begin to explore sentence structure.

This understanding will help you learn how to ask questions and the basic language techniques to express “can”, “how”, “want”, “would like” and “where”.

You’ll also learn to ask questions with the interrogative particle “ne”.

Learn days of the week in Chinese

On the course, you’ll explore how to communicate the days of the week and months of the year.

You’ll also learn how to how to ask for and offer information about location, as well as discussing amounts of money. This knowledge will help you with the everyday interactions you could face when travelling in China.

Start to unpack Chinese sentence structure

As you start to construct sentences, you’ll learn more about sentence structure to help ensure you can clearly express your ideas.

You’ll discover serial verb constructions, how to structure an existential sentence, and using imperative sentences with “please”.

Learn about life in China

Throughout the course, you’ll hear from native speakers and language teaching professionals to explore both Chinese culture and language.

Whether you want to work, study, or travel in China, each interactive step of the course will ensure you finish with the knowledge and confidence to communicate in Chinese.

This course follow the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) curriculum and help you prepare for the HSK level 1 test.

      Today you will practise the collocation of the first tone and the other tones. And you will learn 3 new strokes and 3 new characters, as well as learn the single components structure and compound component structure.

    • Week 1 Summary

      This week you have learnt how to ask and answer questions about learning Chinese, know how to use the modal verb 会。Review the tones in Pinyin and learnt the structures of Chinese characters. Let's see if you can grasp all of them.

      We have learned the numbers below 100. Today we are going to talk about the calendar.

      Let's have a look how can you say yesterday and tomorrow in Chinese

    • Tomorrow is Saturday

      We have learnt how to express dates in Chinese. Now we’ll go on to learn how to talk about the schedule.

      Today you will practise the collocation of the second tone with the other tones. And you will learn 3 new characters, two component structures and two radicals.

    • Week 2 Summary

      This week you have learnt how to ask and answer questions about dates。Review the tones in Pinyin and learnt the structures of Chinese characters. Let's see if you can grasp all of them.

      In the last lesson we are talking about foods and drinks you would like to have. Today we are going to learn how to talk about someone’s plan.

      Let's learn how to ask for price in Chinese and get to know chinese currency.

    • Pinyin and Characters

      Let's practise the collocation of the third tone with the other tones; For writing, you will learn two new characters少 and 个, and two radicals 钅 and 口 and understand two component structures.

    • Week 3 Summary

      This week you have learnt how to ask for price。Review the tones in Pinyin and learnt the structures of Chinese characters. Let's see if you can grasp all of them.

  • Week 4

    Where does your son work

    • Where is the kitty

      Let's have a look how can you describe something or someone's location in Chinese

    • Where do you work

      You will learn how to say where do you work in Chinese, use 在 as a preposition to introduce the place where an action takes place.

    • Is your father at home

      We will learn how to say family members in Chinese and ask for someone's location.

    • Pinyin and Characters

      Let's practise the collocation of the forth tone with the other tones; for writing, you will learn three new characters, two radicals and one Component structures: half-enclosure structure.

    • Week 4 Summary

      This week you learnt how to describe something and someone's location with 在 sentence structure in Chinese. Review the tones in Pinyin and learnt the structures of Chinese characters. Let's see if you can grasp all of them

      How to describe a situation "what's on the table" in Chinese.

    • Who is the person in the front

      You will learn how to describe the position of a item or a person with some new location words.

    • Is this seat taken

      Today you will learn how to ask whether the seat is saved for others in Chinese.

    • Pinyin and Characters

      This week you will practise the neutral tone; for writing, you will learn four new characters, and two radicals and one component structures.

    • Week 5 Summary

      This week, you learnt the existence sentence structure. For Pinyin you practised the neutral tone; For writing, you learnt four new characters, the enclosure structure of compound characters, and two new Chinese radicals.
