You’ll need a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree.

If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 (Academic level - with no individual score being lower than 5.5) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.

As a distance learner, you’ll also need a suitable computer with internet connection, together with sufficient IT competence to make effective use our online learning management system (LMS) with high-speed internet and email.

This fascinating, skills-orientated course is split into four modules and one large project.

Knowledge and Understanding

• Combine knowledge related to child and adolescent mental wellbeing, including cultural and social issues.
• Critically evaluate complex needs in children and young people’s mental health and examine the complex needs of the family.
• Critically evaluate and analyse children’s typical psychological development and how it can affect mental wellbeing in children and young people.
• Critically evaluate cultural, social and family issues which can influence child mental wellbeing with a focus on a national and international perspective
• Present a comprehensive analysis of child and adolescent mental health conditions
• Critically evaluate the application of knowledge, reasoning skills, reflection, and research into children’s mental wellbeing within an ethical and legal framework
• Demonstrate a critical understanding of alternative ontological, epistemological and methodological perspectives
• Identify and critically evaluate relevant concepts, models and principals that’s inform and illustrate the area of inquiry

Intellectual (thinking), practical, affective and transferrable skills

• Demonstrate originality of problem solving strategies in children’s mental health care, taking into consideration international/national drivers, and contemporary issues.
• Critically debate how socio-cultural and environmental factors can affect the mental wellbeing of children and young people and highlight how developmental issues may affect mental well-being.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive awareness of legal, ethical, moral issues in relation to children’s mental health care, including stigma.
• Critically analyse intervention and prevention strategies for children’s mental wellbeing.
• Critically evaluate research findings and the importance of these in informing and developing child and adolescent mental health care.
• Negotiate a comprehensive, integrative topic or investigation appropriate to mental health care which demonstrates a creative flexible approach.
• Demonstrate competence in the management of a research or work-based project in a way that is consistent with mental healthcare.
